“Equity coming into agriculture through the internet and using that to grow food in different ways is increasing,” he said.
“It’s already starting to impact agriculture at different levels, such as crowdfunding or investment platforms such as agfunder.”
Mr Hunt said Rabobank would soon launch its own funding assistance model in Australia, called FoodBytes, which aims to connect food industry leaders and potential investors with innovative food and agribusiness start-ups. The event will be staged as part of Rabobank’s international Farm2Fork Summit in early November, which focuses on future innovation in food and agriculture.
Rabobank Sustainable Business Development head Marc Oostdijk said FoodBytes was calling for applications from companies or individuals with innovative concepts which could be brought to market in the food and agricultural industries.
“FoodBytes is designed to showcase the entrepreneurs that are building the next generation of food and agribusiness-related companies, who are innovating and disrupting the food chain with ground-breaking ideas in food, agribusiness and technology,” he said.
Successful applicants will demonstrate their concepts at the Farm2Fork Summit, with a Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice award announced following the presentations.
