Midweight steers "exceeded expectations" with prices reaching as high as $4.14 a kilogram during the selling at Strathalbyn on Friday.

With just shy of 1000 head yarded, the quality was commendable, according to Brett Peters, Elders Strathalbyn.
"It was a very good yarding, and the calves presented well, and we thank the vendors for that," he said.
With cattle coming from the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu, Mid North and Mallee - and buyers also widespread - Mr Peters said the prices largely met expectations or fell either side of expectations.
"The medium and lightweight cattle sold extremely well," he said.
Clint Endersby, Pro-Stock Mount Compass, agreed those steers in the 280-300kg sold particularly strongly, with better weight heifers also selling well.
"As soon as they came down in weights, it definitely struggled," he said.
Andrew Wilson, Nutrien Strathalbyn said the sale "exceeded expectations", with 300kg about the $4/kg mark, and some quality cattle at those weights.
"The true spring-drop calves are presenting very well as a result of last year's good season," he said.
Mt Beare Pastoral Co, Mount Compass, made the highest dollar a head price at $1650 for a run of 17, 459kg February/March 2022-drop Yalkuri-blood Angus steers, with that equating to $3.60/kg.
M White had nine, 428kg Stoney-Point-bld Angus of the same age make $1540 of $3.60/kg.
Gilberside Pty Ltd, Tarlee, had five, 471kg October/November-drop Angus make $1500 or $3.18/kg.
A run of three, 461kg Angus steers from Monmouth Lodge, Meningie, sold at $1440 or $3.22/kg, and Ausmei Pty Ltd, Meadows, had eight, 359kg August-drop Newlyn-Park-bld Angus make $1320 or $3.68/kg.
Marble Hill achieved the highest dollar a kilo price, hitting $4.14/kg or $1180, for its nine, 285kg October-drop Angus steers.
Amac Pty Ltd, Aldinga, had 10, 287kg Goolagong-bld Angus steers make $1160 or $4.04, as well as 16, 235kg Angus-crosses at $900 or $3.83/kg.
Six, 130kg Angus-cross steers from RAC Property, Willunga Hill, made $520 or $900.
Ball Pastoral, Littlehampton, sold 14, 279kg October/November-drop Angus at $1110 or $3.98/kg, and eight September/October-drop Angus, 302kg, from Fullerville Investments, Adelaide Plains, made $1200 or $3.97/kg.
JP&CE Faulkner had 19, 280kg, Angus make $100 or $3.93/kg and CM Jones offered eight, 253kg June/July 2022-drop Angus make $990 or $3.91/kg.
Monmouth Lodge topped the heifer run with 15, 442kg Angus at $1400 or $3.17/kg.
Three, 477kg April 2022-drops from Dalman Pty Ltd, Delamere, as part of a dispersal, made $1430 or $2.99/kg.
MB&NS Wickham, Parawa, sold seven, 362kg March/April 2022-drop Murray Grey-Angus at $1200 or $3.31/kg, while Ball Pastoral had 21, 285kg October/November-drop Angus make $950 or $3.33/kg.
There was a small offering of cow and calf units, with the highest of these $1800 for four, fourth and fifth calver cows with four April/May-drop calves at-foot from SP&C Ollett, Murray Bridge.
M&S Bolt had four Angus-cross first calvers with four CAF make $1710.
